Kerala state's rice consumption is predicted to be between 3.5 and 4 million tons per year, but production just a sixth of this. In order boost the production, attention must paid traditional growing techniques. Thus, there need understand Pokkali cultivation method used in Kerala. The style farming Kerala's acidic, saline soil distinctive way cultivation. A native historic salt-tolerant type called Pokkali, with 120-day season, can withstand flooding by up height 1.5 meters. Chettivirippu, Vyttila 1, 2, 3, 5 are other varieties cultivated using method. With this technique, single crop harvested on mounds during low salinity part cycle (June mid-October), prawn aquaculture taking place high phase (November April). only produce 2000 kg hectare, making it slightly unprofitable. plant residue after harvesting left rot water which subsequently acts as feed. Prawn takes from November April. Sluice gates help culture filtering maximizing amount that enters field preventing prawns escaping. two main species Penaeus monodon (Tiger prawn) indicus (White prawn). Prawns typically collected mid-April, especially three days before new full moon days, tidal activity affects their movement. excreta serve natural fertilizer for cultivation; feeding stubbles minimize occurrence illness minimum. It an organic approach less cost than commercial because chemical fertilizers pesticides not used.
